Growing your social media following is no easy task. It doesn’t come overnight. However, with some strategic changes, hard work and effort, growing your accounts can definitely happen. Below are some tips that can apply to any platform.
Branding
BRANDING is a major component to growing your account. It is super essential. Your brand is your voice, your expertise and your personality. Some instagrammers become known as the makeup queen, well-rounded traveler, tech guru, financial mogul, and the list goes on. Other people may choose to focus on food, hobbies, fashion, or lifestyle. BRANDING is all about how you present yourself. Have you been building your personal brand? Remember, you have to make yourself marketable. What niche do you want to focus on? How professional are your photos? What’s your profile aesthetics? Are you consistently keeping and maintaining your brand? That means once you decide what niche and aspects of your life to focus on, stick to it! Do not add a random photo when you get mad at someone or post some crazy picture that goes against your personal brand you are growing. Sometimes branding yourself means starting over and deleting unnecessary pictures that don’t fit within your brand. As you build your brand people will begin to trust your recommendations. People will want to follow you!
Be authentic
Social media is full of people flaunting and faking. Try to be as authentic as possible. What do I mean by that? Trying to flaunt like you’re a millionaire driving Bentleys and Aston Martins when you don’t even own a Lexus is not authentic and gets you less respect. Your followers crave to see the your world through your eyes, they want a different perspective. For example, many times when I post quotes it is actually how I feel at the moment or what’s on my heart. All my postings are in my home, in things I actually own, and in the city I actually live. I do not go rent a car or go to a fancy house to post fake shots of ‘how fabulous I’m living’. Yes there are folks who go rent stuff and do all sorts of unreal things. Just be yourself and as authentic as possible and your audience will appreciate it. Post things during your normal day or while doing your everyday routines. Build your story together in a creative, distinctive, yet real way.
Photography
Your feed is full of photography, whether facebook, instagram, pinterest, or twitter. Pictures tell a thousand words. So your angles and a good camera is very important. Your camera doesn’t have to be super expensive and can very well be your phone if it has the ability to take exceptionally great quality photos. Shoot different angles like close ups, mediums, wide, etc.Your photography is key to building your account. No one likes looking at bad quality photos. However, everyone loves great photos!
Editing
Yes each and every one of my pictures I post are edited. Editing is the secret ingredient to a perfect recipe. Even when you have a perfectly great shot, adding some color grading makes a great shot PERFECT! From adding and subtracting brightness, contrast, saturation, temperature, and other effects, you can have a field day with color grading. Editing is needed to fit your aesthetic that you are going for. Some go for really bright and vibrant feed, while others do strictly black & white or low temperature feeds.
