Instagram has quickly become one of everyone’s favorite social media platforms growing to over 600 million active users. Unless you go viral, growing your Instagram takes dedication, work, and effort. Becoming famous doesn’t happen overnight. Getting more Instagram followers can seem overwhelming difficult. Many times you don’t know how to grow your following and people are not sharing their secrets. So I’ve decided to share with you a few of my secrets that I do to grow my Instagram.

Hashtags
I could teach an entire course on hashtags! Many people haven’t taken the time to understand hashtags. Hashtags can help you be discovered and can give you engagement as well. Instagram has a maximum rule of no more than 30 hashtags. You may use them in your initial post or in your comments. There are also ways to get in the top posts of certain hashtags. Using hashtags is all about strategy.
Shoutouts/Pay for Exposure
One way to get more followers is to steal other account followers-meaning being featured on someone else’s feed. There are 2 options, try to get free exposure or pay for exposure. Getting featured on bigger accounts with bigger audiences puts your face out there in hopes that some of their followers will take interest in you and become new followers of you. I’ve gotten featured on other Instagram accounts multiple times. Once is not enough. You should try to get featured as much as possible. Sometimes you can pay for a feature while other times it is just if you’re lucky. Here are some examples of when I was featured on larger accounts:

Tags
Another little secret of mine is using tags. Tags are a nice way to get noticed by bigger accounts. Tag your location, brands, restaurants, bloggers, promotion accounts, anything or anyone involved. So if you are out eating at a restaurant, tag the restaurant! They may #repost and feature you on their page! If you’re wearing a certain outfit, watch, or shoes, then tag the brand! The more reposts you get, that is free advertising and exposure for you! Remember, the goal is to get more Instagram followers, so you need exposure!
Purchase Ads
You ever heard the saying, it takes money to make money. Yes, you have to pay for ads to get exposure. Unless, you’re one of the 1% of people that luck up and go viral, you will have to find ways to get exposure. So buy ads on many platforms and run them constantly. Running ads can give you engagement, awareness, and followers. The key to ads is pitching intriguing pictures, videos, descriptions, and reaching your target audience.
Engage with Others
Engaging with others is a great way to get attention. From a like, comment, or follow, many people will check out your profile if you have engaged with their account in some way. If they like your profile, they may then become a follower. Engaging with others is an awesome, yet time consuming, way to get followers.
This is definitely not all that you can do to get more Instagram followers, but they are some things that I constantly do to continue growing my accounts. Growing your account does not come overnight. Instead it takes planning, preparation, and effort. But like everything else, if you stay at it, it will pay off in the long run and you will notice you’re getting more followers.
